This study aims to reduce hair damage when applying chemical procedure and review efficacy and possibilities of natural extracts by manufacturing natural hair protection cosmetics used as pretreatment for permanent wave application. By adding Musa extracts by 10% to the manufactured treatment, pretreatment material for permanent wave application was used. Based on measurement of hair thickness after the use, JBM demonstrated the most similar value to that of virgin hair. JBM showed the highest level of tensile strength among experiment groups by 115.66±12.39 gf/mm2 while the control group C without any treatment displayed the lowest level in the microstructure observation. According to the analysis result of hair substance based on EDS, JBM contained the greatest amount of sulfur by 09.76% showing a smaller amount by 0.6% than that of virgin hair. The research results confirm that Musa extracts are effective in mitigating hair damage and protecting hair.
