This article represents Han Young Sook’s art world which is centered about her life and her main works with the characteristics of her dance. She had lived her life, sticking faithfully to Korean dance for seventy years. The specific characters of her dance represented in her main works are as follows: Firstly, the characteristics of Seungmu are beauty of lines represented in scattering sleeves of Jangsam and beauty of temperance represented in neatly arranged connections between her movements felt like her humaneness and grandeur of dance movement like moving a mountain with her feeble body. Secondly, Salpurichum shows ingenuous exquisiteness which comes from nicely arranged movements and also shows beauty of dimness which would rather bring “han” into heart and sublime it than gush out “han” clotted in heart. Thirdly, The characteristics of Taepyeongmu give unbound and delicate foot movements in harmony with tricky and complicated Gyounggi Dodanggut and gracefulness of Korean dance which comes from splendid court garments and gorgeous dance movements like a bleeding heart. The art world of Han Young Sook can be explained like this: Firstly, womanly beauty of lines containing Oriental mysteriousness; secondly, pursuit of dance controling body and mind; thirdly, beauty of temperance and beauty of grandeur shown in Seungmu; ingenuous exquisiteness and beauty of dimness in Salpurichum, delicacy and refinement in Taepyeongmu; fourthly, her position as a Godmother completing traditional Gyounggi-ryu dance; fifthly, her importance in educating younger students shown in founding Korean Art School of Folk and Music. I examined the art world of Han Young Sook in terms of her life, her philosophy of life, her main works and the characteristics of her dance, eventually focusing on re-illumination of the art world of Han Young Sook. The art world of Han Young Sook can be summarized as the stream of a river. It originated from a well, forming a creek and a river, and flowed into an ocean. She inherited a soul of art from her grandfather and kept and developed it and transferred it to her younger students. The art world of Han Young Sook will be a paragon for young students of Korean dance.
