본 연구는 국내의 대학 총장 리더십에 대한 연구동향을 분석하고 그 특징을 파악하여 향후 대학 총장 리더십의 연구 방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 지난 30년간 수행된 국내 학술지 논문과 박사학위논문 총 11편을 리더십의 유형, 연구주제, 연구방법의 준거로 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 리더십의 유형에서는 변혁적 리더십에 대한 연구가 가장 많았고, 2010년 이후 다양한 리더십에 대한 연구가 나타나고 있었다. 둘째, 연구주제에서는 리더십의 효과 분석이 다수를 차지하는 가운데 최근 총장의 리더십 특성 및 역할을 분석하는 연구들이 수행되었다. 셋째, 연구방법에서는 양적연구가 대부분을 차지하였다. 이러한 분석 결과를 통해, 대학 조직의 맥락 아래 대학 총장 리더십의 역할 및 수행 등을 심도 있게 분석하는 질적 연구가 필요하고 연구주제가 확대되어야 함을 시사점으로 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to present the research direction on the leadership of university president by analyzing research trends and points on the leadership. For this, this study analyzed a total of 11 domestic journal articles and doctoral dissertations, conducted over the past 30 years, based on the types of leadership, research topics, and research methods. The research results are as follows. First, in the type of leadership, research on transformational leadership was the most frequent, and research on various leadership has been conducted since 2010. Second, in the research topic, while the effectiveness analysis of leadership occupies a large number, studies to analyze the leadership characteristics and roles of the president have been conducted recently. Third, quantitative research occupied most of the research methods. Through these analysis results, it was suggested that a qualitative study is needed to in-depth analyze the role and performance of the president's leadership under the context of the university organization, and that the research topic should be expanded.
