리안 영화는 화어영화와 할리우드 영어영화로 나뉜다. 우리는 그의 이런 영화 텍스트와 콘텍스트, 영화작품에 대한 비평들과 연구 속에서 동서양의 식민과 탈식민의 의식들이 넘나드는 것을 발견할 수 있다. 중국이 외치는 중화권 대통합 의식이나 서양이 보는 동양에 대한 불손한 발화의식들 사이에서 리안감독이 재현하는 영화들에는 중국과 서양이 표상하는 제국과 식민의식, 그리고 그것을 넘어서고자 하는 탈식민 의식이 유동하고 있다. 본 논문은 리안감독의 문화위치를 가늠하고 그의 할리우드 영어영화를 중심으로 식민과 탈식민의 문제에 주목하고자 한다. 특히 서양 속 비서양적 타자들의 저항과 반란, 흔들리는 서양의 불안한 정체성들 속에서 식민 담론이 해체되는 흔적을 발견한다. 그가 재현하는 동양 속 서양, 서양 속 동양은 그의 동양의식과 서양의식 사이를 넘나들며 때로는 강력한 비판이 되기도 하고 또 때로는 분열성을 보이며 각기 혹은 서로 같이 관계 맺기를 진행하고 있다.

Ang Lee movies are divided into a Hwa-eo movie and a Hollywood English movie. We find the Eastern and Western colonial and decolonistic rituals interspersed in criticism and study of film text, context and cinematic works. He is located between China’s demand for grand unity and Western irreverent ignition consciousness. In his film, the empire and colonial consciousness represented by China and the West, and the decolonization consciousness that wants to go beyond it, are in flux. This paper speculates on his cultural location and focuses on the problems of colonial and decolonization, focusing on Hollywood English films. In particular, he finds traces of the disintegration of colonial discourse amid the resistance and rebellion of non-Western hitters in the West, and the shaky identity of the West. The West in the East and the East in the West, which he reproduces, are sometimes strongly criticized, sometimes divisive, and sometimes crosses his Eastern and Western consciousness.
