본 연구는 한국교회의 자기애성 치유방안에 관한 목회신학적 고찰이다. 본고에서 연구자는 자기애성으로 고통당하는 한국교회의 치유방안을 모색함에 있어, 존 카시안(John Cassian)과 도날드 캡스(Donald Capps)의 팔대악덕 치료법을 중심으로 비교하여 살펴보았다. 또한 이들의 치료법이 지닌 장점을 살리고 한계점을 보완하기 위해 존 웨슬리의 성화개념을 사용하여 오늘날 한국 목회상담이 지향해야 할 바에 관하여 목회신학적으로 성찰하였다. 카시안의 팔대악덕 치료법이 교회사 초기에 대두된‘수도원 공동체의 부패와 타락’에 대한 처방전이었다면, 캡스의 팔대악덕 치료법은 자기애성으로 고통당하는 한국교회의 치유를 위한 좋은 처방전이 될 수 있다. 연구자는 카시안과 캡스의 팔대악덕 치료법에 대한 비교고찰을 통해, 목회 상담은 내담자의 인격적 온전함을 추구해야 함과 동시에 개인이 속한 사회와 공동체의 치유에도 반드시 관심을 기울여야 함을 주장하였다. 목회상담은 내담자의 내면적인 악덕을 제거해가고 덕목을 함양시켜가는 개인적 성화의 과정이어야 함과 동시에, 내담자가 몸담고 있는 사회와 공동체의 덕목을 증진시켜 가는 사회적 성화의 과정이기도 해야 한다. 연구자는 한국교회의 자기애성 치유를 위해서는 두 가지 차원의 과업, 곧 교회와 하나님과의 공감적인 관계 회복, 그리고 교회와 사회와의 공감적 관계 회복이 이루어져야 함을 역설하였고, 교회가 이 두 가지 차원의 관계성을 회복해가는 과정을 통해 궁극적으로 개인적 성화와 사회적 성화의 완성으로까지 나아갈 수 있게 됨을 강조하였다.

This article is a pastoral theological reflection for the healing of the Korean Church suffering from narcissism. To explore the ways of healing the Korean Church suffering from narcissism, the eight principal vices by John Cassian are compared with those by Donald Capps. And then, to take advantage of the value and to complement the limitations of their remedies, this study considers the focus of Korean pastoral counseling today from the perspective of pastoral theology based on the concept of ‘sanctification’ of John Wesley. As the remedy for the eight principal vices by Cassian was the prescription for healing “depravity and corruption of the monastic community,” which appeared in early church history, so the remedy for the eight principal vices by Capps can be the prescription for the healing the Korean Church suffering from narcissism. This study emphasizes that pastoral counseling should pay attention to the task of healing society and the community where the patient is living, as well as the task of pursuing personal integrity of the patient. Pastoral care should be the process of personal sanctification, removing the inner vices and cultivating the inner virtues of the patient; but at the same time, pastoral care should be involved in the process of social sanctification by cultivating the virtues of the society and the community where the patient is living. This article suggests that a two-dimensional task-empathic relationship recovery of the Church with God and of the Church with society-should be done for the healing the Korean Church suffering from narcissism. Finally, the article asserts that the Korean Church can go on to the point of completeness of personal sanctification and social sanctification, through the process of two-dimensional relationship recovery.
