이 연구는 한국 웹소설에 나타난 회귀 모티프의 특성과 독서욕망을 다루었다. 분석 대상으로 해당 모티프가 빠르게 활용된 로맨스 판타지 장르를 중심으로 작품을 살펴보았다. 이 연구에서 ‘회귀’는 웹소설의 인물이 과거의 자신의 몸속으로 들어가, 미래의 정신이 현재(과거)의 몸을 지배하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 회귀 모티프의 서사는 주인공이 현재의 유의미한 관계/권력 등을 상실한 데서 시작하며, 회귀 사실을 안 뒤 자신의 삶을 회복하고자 지식을 활용한다는 점, 더 나아가 회귀 시점 이후의 미래를 긍정한다는 점에서도 공통적이다. 회귀 모티프에서 추출되는 독서욕망은 새로운 서사를 원하는 독자층의 성향, 상실을 회복하려는 욕구, 자기계발 담론의 내면화 등이다. 이후 예측 가능한 서사의 변화는 회귀의 반복(게임화), 회귀의 목적 변화 등으로 살펴볼 수 있었고, 앞으로도 연구 가능한 주제이다. 이 연구는 장르 내에서 언급된 ‘회귀’를 하나의 특성으로 포착해 학술적인 관점에서 그 원인과 특징을 다루었다는 점에서 유의미하다. 한계점으로는 장르의 한정, 서사의 보수성과 모티프의 연관성 검토 부족, 자조적 회귀와 현대 여성 독자의 연결성 부족, 적극적인 독자연구의 부족 등을 들 수 있다. 앞서 다룬 연구 가능한 지점들과 한계점은 후속연구로 남긴다.

This study deals with the characteristics of regression motifs in Korean web novels and the desires of reading. I examined the works focusing on the romance fantasy genre, where the motifs were quickly utilized. In this study, ‘regression’ is characterized by the character of the web novel entering into the body of the past, and the spirit of the future dominating the body of the present(past). The narrative of regression motif is based on the fact that the main character starts from the loss of the present significant relationship / power, utilizes knowledge to recover his / her life after recurrence, and affirms the future since the return to be. The reading desire extracted from the regression motif is the tendency of the readers desiring a new narrative, the desire to recover the loss, and the internalization of the discourse of self - help. Since then, predictable narrative changes have been examined in terms of repetition of repetition (change of game) and change of purpose of regression. This research is meaningful in that it sees the ‘regression’ mentioned in the genre as a characteristic and deals with its cause and characteristics from an academic point of view. Limitations include lack of genre limitation, lack of relevance of genre conservativeness and motifs, lack of self-regression and connection of modern female readers, and lack of active reader research. The research points and limitations discussed above are left as a follow-up study.
