The Trump Administration has consistently stressed that the Indo-Pacific is the priority theater and the most consequential region for the U.S. The Department of Defense’s 2019 Indo-Pacific Strategy Report is important in that it is the first strategy report containing the Trump administration’s awareness of the strategic environment in the Indo-Pacific region and the specific ways in which it can be implemented. This paper attempts to analyze how the U.S. Grand Strategy and military and security strategy under the Trump administration are reflected in the Indo-Pacific strategy and policy based on the 2019 Indo-Pacific Strategy Report It also reviews the constraints that may be involved in implementing this. Based on this analysis, the implications and policy implications for South Korea are drawn.
