환경에 대해 높아지는 관심으로 인해 현대인의 친환경 소재에 관한 관심이 특히 증가하고 있다. 이 연구는 현대인들의 생활환경에서 가장 밀접하게 쓰이는 조명에 주목하여 한지의 소재성과 그 소재의 향상기법을 찾아 한지공예를 재조명하여 자연친화적인 조명디자인개발에 관한 연구이다. 즉, 현재 지속적으로 대두되고 있는 환경문제와 우리 고유의 문화유산인 한지 소재에 대하여 고찰한 것으로서, 한지의 우수성을 극대화하고 단점을 보완하여 실내공간에서의 조명등 소재로 적합성을 높이는데 연구의 의의가 있다. 그리하여 이 연구에서는 먼저 과거의 한지 쓰임과 특징 및 기법을 고찰하여 조명등 소재로써의 적합성을 확인하고, 현시대에 닥종이로 만들어진 조명사례를 선행 연구하였다. 그리고 그러한 연구에 근거하여 전통한지공예 기법을 바탕으로 소재를 실험하면서 한지소재 개발에 관하여 연구하였다. 기존의 한지제작 도구인 발을 사이잘삼으로 대체하여 소재 개발을 하였으며 이 소재는 자유로운 형태 변형 및 전통적인 질감과 투과성 등 한지의 장점을 그대로 유지하면서 내구성과 내수성을 보다 더 강화 할 수 있었다. 즉, 본 연구는 새로운 소재와 기법을 모색하여 현대 생활에 적합한 한지 조명개발을 목적으로 한 연구이다. 과거 조명의 역할은 단지 빛을 밝히는 역할에 국한되어 있었지만 이제는 조명의 질적 향상에 가치를 두는 사고가 형성되어 보다 쾌적하고 아름다운 환경을 조성할 수 있는 조명을 요구하고 있다. 본 연구에서의 이러한 조명디자인 개발은 더 건강한 주거생활을 이루고자 한 시도 중 하나이며, 향후 실내공간을 구성하는 물질은 환경오염을 줄이고 건강 지향적이며 현대인들의 내적 욕구와 삶의 의미를 충족시켜 줄수 있는 방향으로 나아가야 한다는 생각아래, 자연 친화적이고 미적인 조명을 디자인한 것이다.
The growing interest in the environment is especially increasing for modern people in terms of environmental materials. This study is a research on the development of nature-friendly lighting design by re-examine Korean paper art in search of material improvement of Korean paper, noting light fixtures, which are most closely used life instrument in modern culture. In other words, the research is intended to maximize the superiority of Korean paper and enhance its suitability as a lighting design material in indoor spaces by supplementing its shortcomings, as well as considering environmental issues that are constantly emerging. This research had explored about the superiority of Korean paper, when it is applied as a material for the lighting. It is very flexible, free to change its form, and penetrates the light very well. So, the usage of the Korean paper in the past, and its characteristic and the technique are explored in this research to make the pre-research for the example of lighting made of the Dak-paper in the present, and to develop the new material and the technique. Through this research, the superiority of the Korean paper will receive the attention again, and the new material and technique can be explored through the traditional technique for the development of the lighting made of Korean paper with the modern sense. Finally, through this research, the superiority of Korean paper and the improvement is tried to be pursued.
