이 논문은 오정희 소설 「별사」의 독특한 시간성이 실제 작가와 서술 작가의 거리 감각/기법의 변주로 서사화되었음을 분석하고 그것의 의미와 효과가 ‘작가’의 재현으로 나타남을 논구하고자 했다. 「별사」시간해석의 모호함은 서사 시간의 심한 간극과 어긋남, 현재와 과거, 미래가 자유롭게 서로를 간섭하고 전환/이동하면서 발생한다. 이러한 난해한 시간성은 남편의 죽음이 환상인가 회상인가를 두고 다양한 해석을 야기했고 「별사」에 대한 평은 수수께끼 같은 텍스트로 수렴됐다. 본고는「별사」를 ‘작가 정옥’의 하루를 서사화한 소설로 재독했다. 즉 「별사」는 정옥이란 작가가 이야기를 쓰는 과정을 실제 작가가 서사화한 소설인 것이다. 때문에 「별사」에는 실제 작가와 서술 작가 사이의 거리와 상호침투가 빈번하게 등장한다. 실제 작가의 서술은 서술 작가에 의해 배제되기도 하고, 때로 ‘신뢰할 수 없는 화자’로 존재하는 서술 작가는 곁텍스트를 반복적으로 서술하여 독자의 상상력과 추리를 추동하면서도 덜 말하는 방식으로 진실을 지연하기도 한다. 하지만 실제 작가와 서술 작가의 거리가 멀어지거나 메워짐으로써 독자에게 그 거리에 대한 관심을 불러일으켜 서술 작가가 그리지 않거나 볼 수 없는 그 이상의 진실을 보게 한다. 또한 지연된 진실은 정치적 무의식과 무관하지 않으며 작가는 이 죽음의 불안을 글쓰기/사랑의 시간으로 돌려놓음으로써 그 위상을 재확인한다. 실제 작가와 서술 작가의 거리가 없어지는 자유간접화법의 사용은 작가의 간접 서술이 아닌, 인물이 독자에게 직접 말하게 함으로써 독자가 인물의 감정과 의식에 직접 접속하게 한다. 흥미로운 점은 이러한 실제 작가와 서술 작가의 거리두기와 메움을 통해 독자는 지속적으로 작가를 의식하고 상상하게 되는데, 이 점은 오정희 글쓰기에 대한 그간의 매혹 혹은 충성과 무관하지 않으며 이후의 여성 작가들에게 유의미한 영향을 주었다.
This paper aims to analyze that the unique time perception of Oh Junghee’s Fiction, “Byeolsa” was narrative as a variation of the distance between real writer and implied author and sought to discuss that its meaning and effect would be represented to the reproduction of a writer. The fiction’s esoteric timeliness caused various interpretation. This paper revisits “Byeolsa” as narrative of ‘the writer jungok’ day. In other words, “Byeolsa” is written by a real writer about the process of writing a story by jungok, a writer in the fiction. So “Byeolsa” frequently features the distance and interpenetration between the actual writer and the narrator. The narrative of the actual writer is excluded by the narrator and sometimes a narrator who exists as an ‘unreliable narrator’ repeatedly describes the side-text, which drives the reader’s imagination and reasoning, but also while delaying the truth by less telling. However by distancing beween two writers, it evokes interest in the ‘distance’ to the reader, making readers notice more truth than the narrator can’t describe or see. In addition, the use of free indirect discourse method(FID) allows the reader to directly access the emotions and consciousness of the character not the author’s indirect description, to speak directly to the reader. What interesting is these method of distancing keep the reader conscious and imaging the writer. And this makes loyalty and fascination of Oh Junghee’s writing and gives significant impact on subsequent female writers.
