본 연구는 교리교육이 선교사 자녀의 신앙발달에 미치는 영향에 대한 것이다. 한국선교는 비교적 짧은 선교 역사에도 불구하고 171개국에 27,993명의 선교사를 파송할 정도로 성장하였다. 그러나 이러한 양적성장의 이면에는 해결해야 할 많은 과제를 안고 있다. 특히 선교사 자녀를 위한 멤버케어는 한국교회의 선교가 건강한 방향으로 가기 위해 반드시 해결해야 할 과제이다. 선교사 자녀들은 부모와 함께 자신들이 살아왔던 문화권에서 또 다른 문화를 형성하는 ‘제3문화 아이들’의 범주에 속한다. 이들의 독특한 상황은 ‘다문화 경험’과 ‘이동성’으로 요약할 수 있는데, 이는 장점과 단점의 양면성을 가지고 있다. 이동성으로 인한 거주 불안정성, 관계형성의 불안으로 인한 유대감 상실, 문화적 불균형으로 인한 소외감, 다양한 언어로 인한 한계성과 혼란 등이 그것이다. 분명한 것은 선교사 자녀들은 한국교회의 미래의 선교주역이 될 수 있는 잠재적 인적자원이 될 것이다. 따라서 본고는 한국 교회가 감당해야 할 선교적 사명을 다하기 위해서 지금까지 소홀히 해왔던 선교사 자녀들의 중요성을 인식하고 그들의 신앙발달을 통한 내적강화에 중점을 두고 연구를 진행하였다. 교리교육을 통한 신앙발달의 효과성을 알아보기 위해 12주간 하이델베르크 교리교육을 실시하였고, 이후 사전-사후 조사를 통해 선교사 자녀들의 영적성숙, 자존감, 자아회복탄력성의 변화를 살펴보았는데 그 결과 거의 모든 영역에서 유의미한 차이가 확인되었다. 이에 본 소고의 연구 결과를 토대로 아래와 같은 4가지 기독교 교육적 함의를 도출하였다. 첫째, 선교사 자녀의 영성 발달을 위한 교리교육이 반드시 필요하다. 둘째, 선교사 자녀용 교리교육 제작시 심리적 구인 내용들을 첨가하여 가르쳐야 한다. 셋째, 교리교육 교재는 이론과 실천을 조화되도록 해야 한다. 넷째, 선교사 자녀들을 위한 온오프라인 교육 시스템을 구축해야 한다. 결국 교리교육을 통해 선교사 자녀들이 신앙적으로 더 성숙하고 하나님의 뜻에 순응하는 정체성을 가지고 살아가도록 도와야 할 것을 제안하였다.

This research is about the effect of doctrinal teaching on the spiritual development of the missionary kids. Despite its relatively short history, South Korea has grown tremendously, sending over 27,993 missionaries to 171 countries all over the world. However, it is also true that this rapid increase in quantitative growth also brought issues that require assessment and resolution. Among those issues is quality member care for the missionary kids (MKs) South Korean churches must provide adequate care for MK head in a healthy direction. MKs are also known as “Third Cultured Kids” due to their experiences of having to live abroad with and underthe influence of their missionary parents. There are pros and cons to their mobility and cross-cultural experiences. Some of the characteristics that display the double-sidedness of their nature are the instability caused by frequent moving and temporary residence, lost sense of belonging and identity due to formation of unstable relationships, sense of isolation and alienation from cultural asymmetry, and last but not least, confusion and limitation caused by diverse and various languages spoken around them. It is, however, obvious that the MKs are potential resources for the future of the South Korean mission. Thus, this article focuses on recognizing the significance of the missionary kids and their internal fortification through spiritual development as well as their potential as meaningful elements for the burden of future South Korean mission. A 12-week Heidelberg doctrinal teaching method was implemented in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the spiritual development through doctrinal teaching. The experiment was accompanied by an enquiry of the areas of growth in spiritual maturity, self-esteem, and resilience level before and after the experiment. The result of the experiments showed significant improvements as the above-mentioned areas. Based on the result, the article deduced four Christian educational implications. First, doctrinal teaching is nonnegotiable for the spiritual development of the missionary kids. Second, The various psychological contents such as Jung, Freud, Maslow, etc., must be included in the doctrinal teaching material. Third, the doctrinal teaching material must integrate the doctrinal theory and application. Fourth, an offline education system must be designed for the MKs. The author suggested that the South Koreanchurches should help the MKs through educating them in the doctrinal teaching so that they will mature spiritually and live with an identity that is in accordance with the will of God.
