본고는 생성문법의 패러다임 안에서 어휘부와 통사론에 관한 일반적인 가정에 심각한 문제가 있음을 국어 현상을 통해 실증적으로 고찰해 보고 그 대안으로 생성 절차와 저장 절차를 분리하여 언어기관의 인지체계가 생성부와 저장부로, 생성부는 다시 형태부와 통사부로 구성되며, 생성부의 규칙들과 그 출력물들의 저장 여부 간에는 원칙적으로 어떠한 연계성도 존재하지 않음을 제안한다. 이러한 제안에 기초하여 언어 단위의 생성과 저장이 이루어지는 거의 모든 국면에 불확정성이 체계적으로 존재함을 보인다. 아울러 이를 바탕으로 기존의 상당어 논의가 여전히 상당어와 비상당어라는 이분법에 매여 언어 단위들을 차별적으로 분류하고 있음을 지적, 상당어라는 별도의 언어 단위 설정 없이 불확정성이라는 개념만으로 충분히 어휘부와 통사부의 언어 단위들에 대한 합리적인 기술이 가능함을 논의한다.

In this paper, I prove that there are many serious problems in the current theories of lexicon and syntax from the perspective of Generative Grammar. This is done through the investigation of Korean morphological and syntactic phenomena which have been considered problematic by many researchers. I propose an alternative theory that language faculty consists of storing component and generating component made up of morphological component and syntactic component. There is no special relationship between rule system and listedness so that even the output of syntactic rule can be listed freely in storing component when needed. This new theory reveals that almost every single aspect of generating and storing of linguistic units has uncertainty. These facts drive me to re-evaluate my previous theory about Equivalents, allowing me to explain them solely by using the concept of uncertainty, without any speculation of a binary system consisting of Equivalents and Non-equivalents.
