이 연구는 국내 프로야구 FA타자들을 대상으로 추정득점(eXtrapolated Runs. XR)과 연봉에 대한 관계를 규명함으로써 지불된 연봉에 부합하는 경기력을 보여주고 있는가를 실증하는 데 목적이 있다. 주된 분석대상은 국내 프로야구 10개 구단 체계가 확립된 2015년부터 2017년까지 3년 동안 활약한 FA타자 46명이며, 이들이 기록한 연도별 XR과 연봉에 대한 케이스 101개이다. 아울러 전체 타자들과의 비교를 위해 동일 시즌 1군 선수로 경기에 참가했던 416명, 855개 케이스(FA타자 포함) 역시 분석에 투입되었다. Z-공식을 이용한 표준화 값을 산출하여 FA타자들이 지불받은 연봉에 상응하는 경기성과를 나타내고 있는가를 상호 비교하였으며, 개별 타자들의 실제 연봉과 시즌 동안 기록한 XR을 근거로 추정한 연봉, 그리고 실제 XR과 지급된 연봉 금액을 기초로 산정한 추정 XR과의 차이를 분석하고 이들 결과를 개인별, 연도별, 구단별로 집대성하였다. 이를 통해 확인된 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, FA타자들의 경우 연봉 대비 XR 생산성이 높은 경우(24.8%)보다 낮은 경우(75.2%)가 더 많았으며, 3년 동안 유사한 경향을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 구단별 비교와 관련해서도, KT를 제외한 전 구단에서 연봉 대비 XR은 낮은 수준인 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, FA타자들의 평균 XR은 전체 선수들의 평균보다 높은 수준인 것으로 나타났지만, 연봉대비 XR 측면에서는 KT를 제외한 모든 구단에서 낮은 수준임을 알 수 있었다. 특히 SK, LG, 한화의 경우는 그 편차가 상당한 것으로 확인되었다. 상기 결과들을 종합해 보면, XR 자체만으로는 FA타자들이 동일 시즌에 활약한 다른 타자 집단에 비해 평균 이상의 XR을 기록하였다고 평가할 수 있으나, 구단이 지불한 연봉 금액에 상응하는 수준에는 미치지 못하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 반면 상대적으로 적은 연봉을 지불받는 Non-FA타자들이 XR이라는 측면에서 개별 구단에 기여하는 바가 상당할 수 있다는 사실은 주목할 필요가 있다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the FA batters’ XR(extrapolated runs) and salary in Korean professional baseball league. Moreover, this study was aimed to verify whether the FA batters show their performance corresponding to the salary they paid. 101 cases extracted from 46 FA batters and 855 cases from 412 batters were used to analyze during the past three years. Including FA batters, all the batters' performance was calculated by XR formula. In addition, The XR and the salary was standardized values by using the Z-formula. Results of this study are as follows. First, 24.8% of FA batters had higher XR productivity compared to their annual salary, 75.2% had lower XR productivity, and these results showed the same phenomena over the three years. Second, The mean value of XR of FA batters was higher than the mean value of all players, but the XR outcomes compared to their salary level appear in low in all teams except KT. Particularly, the deviation between XR productivity and salary level was in large in SK, LG, and Hanwha, which means the relative efficiency of these 3 teams are not favorable. In conclusion, FA batters’ game performances in Korean professional baseball league are not satisfied with the expectation of all teams management. However, it is necessary to attention that the performance of non-FA batters had a significant effect on the improvement of the team’s record overall.
