The study investigated the relationship between high school student's sport participation and their alienation and delinquency. The subjects for this study were 638 high school students(244 athletes and 394 non-athletes), living in Busan. The statistical methods utilized in this study for analyzing the collected data were analysis of covariance, correlation analysis, and standard multiple regression analysis through SPSS 7.5 version for windows.
Based on the above research methods and procedures, this study produced the following results.
Firstly, High school athletes were higher than non-athletes in the level of normlessness and isolation, and athletes were less than non-athletes in the level of powerlessness and meaninglessness. And High school athletes were higher than non-athletes in the level of public order delinquency, status delinquency, and personal delinquency.
Secondly, There were difference in the level of alienation and delinquency according to the type of high school athlete's sport participation and to the year of their sports career. That is, Athletes involved with the team sport were higher than athletes involved with the individual sport in normlessness and seclusion delinquency, they were less than athletes involved with the individual sport in status delinquency. And, The longer the athlete's sports career, the lower the level of their powerlessness, isolation, status delinquency and personal delinquency
Thirdly, Alienation of sport participants had influence on delinquency. Specially, the level of isolation of high school athletes effected on public order delinquency, property delinquency, and seclusion delinquency. And their powerlessness effected on status delinquency. Also, Their normlessness effected on personal delinquency.
