Objective To observe the effect of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) for the expression of adhesion molecules, we observed the effect of ALA after treatment of of angiotension II on the endothelial cell. Methods We studied the expession of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and PAI-1 after treatment of ALA on angiotensin II (100 nM) pretreated human aortic endothelial cell (HAEC). Results Treatment of angiotensin II increased the expession of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and PAI-1. ALA decreased angiotension II stimulated ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression, but not PAI-1 expression. Conclusion We observed ALA decreased angiotensin II induced ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression on HAEC.
