본고는 연변조선족자치주 지명에 나타난 언어현상을 분석하고 지명에 나타난 유형을 고찰하는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 현재 한국에서는 지명에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있는 데 반해 중국 연변 지구의 지명에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 현실적인 여건으로 말미암아 전주(全州)적인 단위의 지명 조사와 분석은 어려운 실정이어서 그 연구범위를 축소하여 연변조선족자치주 지명지에 실린 3,939개의 지명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 각 현, 시의 지명지(地名志)와 문헌자료 또한 보조적인 자료로 참고하였으며 일부는 현지답사를 통해 보완하기도 하였다. 그 결과 연변 지명의 유형을 여섯 부류로 나눌 수 있었다. 언어 갈래의 측면, 변화의 측면, 관계의 측면, 사용의 측면, 명명하는 대상의 측면, 구별적인 단위의 측면 등이 그것이다.

This essay is about the analysis of the language phenomenon in the place name in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture and the investigation of the types in the place name. There are a lot of studies on the place name in Korean at present, but the study on that of Yanbian district, unlike in Korean, is relatively rare. Because of the conditions and the limit, it is difficult to make a complete diagnosis of the place name in all prefecture. The objects of the study in this essay are 3939 place names in the place name in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture pubulished in 1980. We also take the documentations in every city and county for the reference, combining with the field investigation and research. There are six aspects of the types of the place names in Yanbian, the branch of language, the variation, the relation, the use and the named objects.
