히브리서는 성경 중 가장 난해한 책 중의 하나이다. 교회 역사상 이 책의 본질에 관한 수많은 논쟁이 있었다. 저자와 저작연대, 이 책의 목적과 형식 등에 대한 많은 논쟁에도 불구하고 히브리서는 명확하게 1세기 수신자들이 받은 어려움과 역경을 보여준다. 히브리서 10장 32-35절과 12장 1-13절은 극심한 박해 앞에서 믿음의 확신을 잃어버린 것과 같은 수신자들의 어려움을 보여주고 있다. 충실한 인내가 필요한 것은 오늘날의 모든 그리스도인에게도 적실한 메시지이기에 히브리서 12장 1-3절은 인내가 필요한 이들에게 적절한 메시지를 제공한다. 따라서 본 연구는 견고한 성경적 교훈을 얻기 위해 히브리서 12장 1-3절을 주해하려 한다. 히브리서 12장 1-3절에 대한 문학적, 문법적, 구문론적 방법으로의 분석은 마치 이전 세대의 증인들이 예수 그리스도의 삶과 인격을 목표로 집중했던 것 같이 하나님의 사람들 또한 신앙의 모범인 예수를 열심히 배우고 따라야 함을 알려준다.

The book of Hebrews is one of the most esoteric books in Scripture. Throughout church history, numerous debates have occurred about the nature of this book. Despite the many debates over authorship, date, purpose, and form, the book of Hebrews clearly captures the plight and struggle of its first-century recipients. Heb 10:32-35 and Heb 12:1-13 show the despair of the audience who seems to have lost the assurance of their faith in the face of severe persecution. Since faithful endurance remains a relevant message for all Christians today, Heb 12:1-3 provides an apt message for those who need to persevere. Therefore this study does an exegesis to Hebrews 12:1-3 in order to find solid biblical les-sons. A literary, grammatical, and syntactical analysis of Heb 12:1-3 reveals that the people of God should emulate Jesus, the epitome of faith. Jesus, the originator and perfector of salvation for the people of God, is the most significant model for this faith journey. Jesus persevered through tremendous pain on the cross by looking to God for his joy. After his unswerving commitment, he was exalted by God. Therefore, those who are on this journey of faith should focus on Jesus just as the witnesses in the previous generation did by focusing on the goal ahead, namely the person and character of Jesus Christ.
