Objective: Cardiovascular diseases more in middle aged females than males & worse prognosis for females with coronary heart disease. Obesity in urban middle aged women is more common . Impaired fasting glucose is a common glycemic disorder which usually progress to diabetes mellitus. The relationships between impaired fasting glucose, other risk factors including blood pressure was not clearly investigated in women So the study is undertaken to study correlation between fasting glucose & blood pressure in middle aged women
Methods: A total of 300 non pregnant, healthy women women of the age group of 35-64 yr were included in the study. These volunteers were divided into 3 groups. Pre ,Peri & Post-menopausal (n = 100 in each group). Fasting glucose was analysed by using GOD POD method .& Blood pressure was taken using standardized technique. Statistical analysis was done using correlation coeffitient tests.
Results: We found a statistical significant correlation difference between FBG & systolic Blood pressure in the middle aged women.
Conclusions: It has been previously demonstrated that SBP was a key determinant of CVD mortality, compared with DBP, in type 2 diabetes mellitus, so in conclusion, the presence of moderate systolic hypertension can identify subjects with impaired fasting glucose who are at risk of cardiovascular and overall mortality, and vice versa, probably through the metabolic syndrome.
