Objective: Cell proliferation and cell migration are important in wound healing process. Disturbance in one of the steps might cause a failure for a wound to heal as such cases in diabetic patients. One of the important and easy steps for a diabetic patient to take is by practising healthy diet. Quercetin is an antioxidant that contains many therapeutic properties to protect cells against oxidative damage and scavenge free radicals in cells. Quercetins are commonly found in vegetables and fruits.
Methods: Therefore, to verify the fact, we chose to conduct an experiment to explore the effect of quercetin in inducing cell proliferation and migration using AlamarBlueTM cell viability and migration assay and also to observe TGF-α gene expression using qRT-PCR analysis after treated with quercetin.
Results: The result revealed a high cell proliferation of cell after being treated with quercetin at 24h and was positively migrated in migration assay. TGF-α gene was found to be highly expressed after treated with quercetin
Conclusion: proving the ability of quercetin in promoting cell proliferation and migration as TGF-α was known to control proinflammatory signaling and enhance cell proliferation and migration.
