Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare cutaneous malignancy with high mortality rate, typically presenting in old patients with light skin. Since most reported cases of MCCs are from Nordic countries, little is known about MCCs occurred in Asian population. Here, we performed a retrospective analysis of 11 cases of MCCs treated at a single-tertiary referral center from 2006 to 2018. MCCs presented primarily in female 8 (73%). The most frequently involved location was head and neck location 6 (54%) and trunk 4 (36%). The average age at diagnosis was 64.2 years with an average follow up period of 26.0 months. At presentation, 6 (55%) patients had localized skin lesions, while 5 (45%) patients had regional metastasis. Five (45%) patients showed recurrence, with the average latency of recurrence being 13.8 months. Whereas tumor location and stage at initial presentation correlated with the western data, we had more female patients in our population. Despite the multi-modality approach, MCCs still showed high recurrence rate with rapid progression.
