Dermatophytoses are superficial fungal infections that parasitize keratin, affects the skin and its annexes. Trichophyton rubrum is the most anthropophilic dermatophyte isolated in the world. There are numerous reports of severe and occasionally life-threatening dermatophytic infections in the increasing population of immunocompromised patients. We report the case of a 32-year-old man who presented large erythematous plaques involving the trunk, face and extremities for 2years. Some of these lesions had a psoriasis-like aspect. He was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis and undergoing topical steroid treatment. However, the course was not improved. Direct microscopic examination of scales removed from the plaques revealed numerous hyphae. Cultural examination lead to the identification of Trichophyton rubrum species. Patients were treated with topical and oral antifungal agents and showed a progressive improvement. If fungal infection is present in the whole body, it may be mistaken for other inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Therefore, accurate examination and diagnosis are important and caution should be exercised, as it may cause fatal complications depending on the patient's immune control ability. We report a rare case of dermatophytois occurring in the immunocompetent system.
