The Controversy of Contemporary Chinese Humanism derived from 6.4 Tian’anmen Event in 1989 and the Statement of Nanxun in 1992. At that time, exteriorly this controversy was likely to take the form of criticism on ridicule literature and sensual art. But actually it has symbolic significance for satire on widespread economism and almighty utilitarianism in China in the early-middle 90s. The concept of Chinese Humanism is characterized by being collected and commanded through the subject “intellectual”, not by its framework’s being in philosophy or thought. Discourse of the humanist explaining the prototype of humanism through Dao’s tradition is very peculiar. If Political Tradition represents secular region, and Academic Tradition - individual areas, then Dao’s Tradition is such a symbol as a window for resource providing and an independent open space aiming at control and communication between these two fields, at the same time. Through the statement in the 2000s of Wangxiaoming who looked back on the phases of the 90s, it became clear that the discourse on Humanism in the middle 90s was not limited to literature and movie areas. What he has intended to symbolize through the discourse is the rapid change of the times caused by the Statement of Nanxun, distorted social ethos due to the Tian’anmen Protests and contorted Chinese exceptional ‘Modernization’ that newly emerged in such conditions.
