이 글에서는 1980년대 이후부터 지금까지 연변지역어의 연구사를 정리하여 연구 흐름을 기술하는 것이 목적이다. 여기서 연변지역어라는 것은 연변조선족자치주에서 사용되는 말을 가리킨다. 1992년 한중수교 이후 많은 조선족 유학생들이 한국으로 공부하러 왔고 본인의 고향말-연변지역어나 함경도, 평안도 방언을 주제로 일반논문과 학위논문을 썼다. 이 글에서는 크게 음운과 문법, 어휘, 기타 등 네 분야로 세분하고 다시 주제에 따라 분류한 후 전반적인 흐름을 살펴보았다. 전체 흐름을 보면 초기에는 기본적으로 직접 조사한 자료를 바탕으로 음운, 문법 분야의 논문이 많았다면 최근에는 문학작품이나 드라마 영화 등에 나오는 자료를 바탕으로 문법, 어휘 분야를 다룬 논문들도 많이 생산되었다. 저자들의 출신지역은 명확하지 않은 부분이 많지만 조사지역은 대부분 용정과 훈춘, 도문, 연길에 집중되어 있다. 구체적인 연구방법은 크게 변하지 않았고 주제들을 보면 음운면에서는 한 지역어의 음운론이나 음운현상, 문법면에서는 종결어미와 대우법, 접사, 어휘면에서는 친족호칭어, 지칭어에 치중되어 있었다. 연변지역어와 남북한의 방언을 비교한 논문도 있었다.

This paper is based on studies published in Korea by Chinese students who graduated in Korean universities and aims to describe tendencies of the research history of vernacular Yanbian Korean. After establishing diplomatic relations between Korea and China in 1992, a large number of Chinese Korean students came to Korea and finished masters and doctors based on their own ‘dialect’ which are Hamgyeong dialect or Pyeongan dialect. In chapter 2, I have described publishing numbers based on dissertations and researches classified as phonological studies, grammatical studies, lexicologic studies and others. The phonological studies focuses on phonology and phonological phenomena, the grammatical studies on honorific system, final ending and affix; the lexicologic studies on terms of address. Regarding tendencies, the methodology has not had any big changes but the data itself has changed. At first primary sources that were personally collected were used but in recent years the usage of secondary sources like dramas and films became more frequent. In chapter 4, I have summarized the main subject and made some suggestions.
