이 글은 방언의 구술발화를 좀 더 체계적이고 효과적으로 수집하고 정리할 수 있는 방안에 대하여 기술하였다. 방언 구술발화 자료를 이용한 연구의 성패는 양질의 자료를 어떻게 수집하고 정리하느냐에 달려 있다. 여기에서는 구술발화 수집과 관련하여 구술발화 질문자의 내용과 구성, 조사 지점, 제보자, 면접, 질문 방식, 자료의 채록(녹음과 전사) 등 여섯 개의 영역으로 나누어 기술하고 마지막으로 자료정리(전사) 방법에 대하요 기술하였다. 여기에서 논의된 내용은 다음과 같다. 구술발화의 내용과 구성은 조사 지역의 문화적 특징을 잘 반영하면서도 언어적 특성까지 고루 보여줄 수 있도록 구성하고 조사의 효율을 높여 시간과 경비를 줄일 수 있도록 이야기 물 흐르듯이 자연스럽게 전개되도록 배열할 필요가 있다. 구술발화 조사를 위한 제보자는 가급적이면 경험이 많고 지식이 풍부하면서도 달변인 80세 정도의 건강한 토박이를 선정하는 것이 좋다. 구술발화 조사를 위한 면접에서는 조사하고자 하는 내용이 다양하고 충분하게 조사되도록 제보자에게 이야깃거리를 제공해주면서 조사를 이끌어가되 나중에 전사할 것을 고려하여 가급적이면 조사자와 제보자의 말이 겹쳐서 발화되는 일이 없도록 주의를 기울여야 한다. 구술하는 중간 중간에 말을 끊지 않도록 주의한다. 조사자의 말을 최소한으로 하고 제보자의 말은 최대한으로 하게 하여 가급적이면 많은 내용을 구술할 수 있도록 유도해야 한다. 구술발화 내용은 녹음하되 디지털 파일로 저장할 수 있는 기기를 이용하여 자료의 손실을 막고 보존을 편리하고 효율적으로 할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 또한 앞으로의 활용을 고려하여 wav 파일 형식으로 녹음하고 저장하는 것이 좋다. 조사된 구술발화 자료는 파일 형식으로 전사 프로그램을 이용하여 전사하고 파일로 저장하는 것이 좋다. 전사는 방언 음성 전사, 국제음성기호 전사, 방언 형태음소 전사, 표준어 내역 등 4단계 전사가 가장 이상적이지만 연구목적이나 조사 목적에 따라 달라질 할 수 있을 것이다.

The National Institute of the Korean Language(NIKL) has made questionnaire for survey of Korean dialects. This questionnaire includes collecting narratives besides lexical, phonological and grammatical variations in Korean dialects. This paper tries to give some method of the data collection and the transcription of narratives in Korean dialects. This paper organized of six field, that is, contents and construction of the questionnaire, survey area, informant, interview, method of the question, recording the data, etc. The first one is about the questionnaire. The contents of the questionnaire include the variety of culture and dialects m survey area. The iteams of questionnaire should be arranged systematically. The second one is about the way how to select the informant. The conditions of informant are the native speaker who have wide experienced, talkative, healthy and about 80 years of aged. The third one is about the way how to interview. Take care not to overlapping the researcher and informant utterance each other and nor to punctuate a narratives. The researcher should lead in order to talk freely and much about the question from the informant. The fourth one is recording the narratives. The digital tape recorder had better the magnetic recorder. The digital recorder had better the digital tape recorder. The transcription program, that is, Transcriber 1.4 is very useful for to transcribe of the narratives.
