본고는 1905년(메이지38년)에 시마이 히로시(島井浩)에 의해 작성된 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』의 구성과 일본어의 특색에 대해 기술한 것이다. 먼저 저자인 시마이 히로시(島井浩)에 대해 기술하였으며 시마이 히로시(島井浩)에 의해 간행된 6권의 학습서에 대한 특징을 기술하였다. 이어서 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』과 『일한 한일 신 회화(日韓韓日新會話)』의 비교를 통하여 유사한 두 학습서의 구성과 어휘에 대해 언급하였다. 검토결과 두 학습서의 구성은 상당히 다름이 밝혀졌다. 그리고 어휘 수에 대하여 조사한 결과 『일한 한일 신 회화(日韓韓日新會話)』와 비교하여 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』쪽이 어휘수가 많음이 밝혀졌다. 또한 학습서에 따라 단어에도 다름이 있다는 것도 알게 되었다. 마지막으로 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』의 「회화」에서 볼 수 있는 일본어에 대해 조사한 결과 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』의 일본어에서는 학습서가 작성된 메이지30년대의 언어현상이 반영되어 있다는 결과를 얻었다. 이상으로부터 『실용 일한회화 독학(實用日韓會話獨學)』은 일본어가 근대어로부터 현대어로 이행되는 과도기의 언어현상을 반영하고 있는 귀중한 언어자료임을 확인할 수 있었다.

This paper describes the composition of Jitsuyo Nikkan Kaiwa Dokugaku created by Hiroshi Shimai in 1905 (Meiji year 38) and the characteristics of the Japanese language. The paper begins by describing the author Hiroshi Shimai and his six published textbooks. Jitusyo Nikkan Kaiwa Dokugaku is compared in contrast with Nikkan Kannichi Shinkaiwa in order to examine the difference in composition and vocabulary of the two textbooks. The results of the examination show that the composition of the two textbooks differed greatly. Jitsuyo Nikkan Kaiwa Dokugaku had the greater number of words in its vocabulary. The vocabulary provided in the two textbooks also differed. The Japanese seen in the Conversation section of Jitsuyo Nikkan Kaiwa Dokugaku reflected the linguistic phenomenonof the 30’s years of the Meiji period (1897-1906).
