In this study, ‘self-praising- expressions which are used in job interview during self PR was focused. In brief time, in case of job interview where one must introduce and advertise oneself, to praise oneself actively is necessary. This kind of self-praising expressions are classified into five categories such as ‘ 1. Personality 2. Ability 3. Appearance 4. Experience 5. Others’. The features of Japanese and Korean were compared and studied. In this study, 150 Japanese (male 51, female 99) in the late 10s and mid-20s and 150 Korean (male 51, female 99) who are finding jobs executed self-PR without conversation with interviewers. The data were collected and analyzed.
In case of Japanese, the frequency of ‘self-praising’ expressions was high in the order of 1. Personality, 2. Ability, 3. Appearance, 4. Others, and 5. Experience. In case of Korean, the frequency of ‘self-praising’ expressions was high in the order of 1. Personality, 2. Ability, 3. Appearance, 4. Experience, and 5. Others.In case of ‘personality’ which was the highest frequency in Japanese and Korean. while Japanese expressed ‘self-praising’ expressions passively by changing ‘self-praising’ expressions and words which appear positive appraisal, Korean has a lot of expressions of Self PR which uses ‘self-praising’ expressions twice with ‘double praising expressions’ with little passive expression. Korean ‘double praising’ expressions could be found a lot in ‘experience’. In Korean, ‘self-praising expressions’ were comparatively more active than Japanese.
