한국·중국·일본은 지리적으로 근접해 있다. 3국은 역사적으로 문화 교류를 통해 상호(相互)에 이익도 주었지만, 민족적 이익을 추구해 침략전쟁으로 서로에 상처를 남겼다. 곧 3국은 증오의 골짜기가 매우 깊은 것이 사실인데, 현대에 들어서도 각 나라가 총칼을 들지 않았을 뿐 서로를 흠집 내며 갈등이 지속되고 있다. 이런 사항을 타개하기 위해 한국·중국·일본 종교인들이 ‘동북아시아 평화공동체 구축을 위한 과제’라는 이름으로 매년 세미나를 개최한다. 이 논문은 2019년 10월, 일본 요코하마[橫浜]에서 개최되었는데, 논자는 한국 대표로 ‘화해’를 주제로 발표하였다. 갈등과 증오를 넘어 화해하는데 있어 불교적 해법은 불교의 자비사상과용서, 동감이다. 무엇보다도 국가는 국민의 행복을 근본으로 해야 한다. 한중일 3국이 서로 화해하지 못한다면 세계적인 경쟁에서 3국의 경제·외교·정치 등이 동반하락될 수 있다. 이에 3국은 문화적으로나 종교면에서 형제와 같은 공동 운명체이므로 상호의존 관계, 동업중생(同業衆生)임을 명심하고 서로 협력해야 한다. 이에 대해 구심점 역할을 해줄 수 있는 이들이 종교인들의 역할이다.

Korea, China, and Japan are geographically proximate to each other. Although historically, through their cultural exchanges, the three countries have also given profits to each other, by pursuing their respective ethnic profits, through aggressive wars, they have left wounds to each other. While, indeed, regarding the three countries, it is a fact that the valleys of hatred have been very deep, it is merely that, entering into the modern times, each country has not held guns and swords. The conflicts have been continuing while they blemish each other. In order to resolve such a matter, the religious people in Korea, China, and Japan have been holding seminars every year with the name of 'The task for establishing the peaceful community of Northeast Asia.' Regarding this thesis, when the seminar was held in Yokohama, Japan in October 2019, I, a discussant, gave a presentation on the topic of 'reconciliation' as the representative of Korea. With regard to the reconciliation by going beyond the conflicts and hatreds, the Buddhist solutions are based on the thoughts of mercy, forgiving, and sympathy in Buddhist teachings. Above anything else, a country must have the happiness of its citizens as its foundation. If the three countries of Korea, China, and Japan cannot reconcile with each other, in the global competition, the economies, the diplomacies, the politics, etc. of the three countries can fall together. As such, since they have common fates like brothers in terms of their cultures and religious aspects, the three countries must keep in mind that they are in the mutually-dependent relationships and that they are co-workers, and they must cooperate with each other. Regarding this, the people who can play a pivotal role in this are the religious people in these countries.
