Objective: The culture of consuming high sugar and carbohydrates feed in North Luwu is one of the risk factors that increasing the incidence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Diabetes mellitus is an important factor in the development of tuberculosis (TB) and hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of DM in TB patients and DM in hypertensive patients in Bone-bone Village. North Luwu, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Methods: This study was used a cross sectional design in January 2019 to May 2019, with total sampling in patients who came in the general and TB polyclinic, Primary Health Center of Bone-Bone, North Luwu, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Results: The results showed that the prevalence of the incidence of DM in TB patients was 22.7% with the prevalence of TB at 22.2%. While the prevalence of the incidence of DM in hypertensive patients is 8.13%. The prevalence of the incidence of diabetes mellitus is 17.2%, with a lifestyle of consuming foods that contain high level of sugar by 67.14%.
Conclusion Based on results, it can be concluded that there was high an incidence of DM in TB patients and the incidence of DM in Hypertension patients in Bone-Bone Village, North Luwu, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The culture of consuming high sugar and carbohydrates feed was one risk factor for the high incidence of DM in North Luwu, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Suggestions for this research are for Primary Health Center to increase knowledge and information to the public, especially DM patient, about the dangers posed by Diabetes Mellitus including complications and how to treat them.
