Objective: The objective of this study is to find out clinical characteristic and therapies for type 2 diabetes mellitus patient in Regional General Hospital Begawe Caram of Mesuji Regency, Lampung, Indonesia.
Methods: the study is observational study in regional general hospital Begawe Caram of Mesuji Regency, Lampung, Indonesia on June-July 2019. Type 2 diabetes mellitus patient is diagnosed based on clinical presentation and random blood sugar test. The patients are conducted interviews, physical examination and laboratory work-up during outpatient care. Macrovascular and microvascular complications were assessed by internist. Then data was collected.
Results: 98 patients are diagnosed. Most patients are women (69,39%). The mean of age distribution was 54 years. Patients were averagely suffered from type 2 diabetes mellitus for 3.6 years. Last education was mostly senior high school (45,92%). Patients were also having comorbidities such as hypertension (44.9%), dyslipidaemia (17.95%) and central obesity (20,41%). Patients were mostly being treated by metformin (86.73%) and insulin (47.96%). Macrovascular complications were coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease (8.16%) and peripheral artery disease (6.12%). Microvascular complications were nephropathy (11.22%), neuropathy (26.53%) and retinopathy (9.18%).
Conclusion: Clinical characteristics and therapies for type 2 diabetes mellitus patient in Regional General Hospital of Mesuji Regency, Lampung, Indonesia, representing rural areas in Mesuji Regency are similar to clinical characteristics and therapies in urban area.
