본고는 추량의 다로우와 증거성 판단 형식인 요오다 라시이와의 비교를 통하여 노다로우의 중심적 추량 특성을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 종래 노다로의 추량 의미는 대체로 다로우와의 비교를 중심으로 고찰되어 왔다. 그러나 종래의 연구는 다로우와의 차이를 보이는 특정의 단일 용법에 주목하였기 때문에, 노다로우의 중심적 추량 특성에 대한 납득할 만한 결과에 이르지 못한 것으로 이해된다. 이에 본고는 추량 판단에 관여하는 다양한 어용론적 추량 용법을 포괄적으로 분석하여 노다로우의 추량 특성을 밝히고자 하였다. 분석 결과 노다로우의 추량 특성은 다로우에 [노다] 의 의미가 결합되어, 다로우와는 다른 이면성(二面性)을 보인다는 점이 분명해졌다.
첫째는, 다로우와의 형태적인 유사성에서 예측할 수 있듯이, 노다로우는 추량 용법상의 특성에 있어서, 많은 경우 추량 형식 다로우에 보이는 용법상의 특성을 공유하고 있다는 점이다.
둘쨰는, [노다(noda)]의 의미가 결합되어, 다로우와는 달리 증거성 판단형식 [요오다], [라시이]에 근접한 용법상의 특성을 함께 갖고 있는 2면성을 갖는 형식으로 파악되었다는 점이다.
위와 같은 노다로우의 추량 용법상의 특성으로 볼 때, 노다로우는 추량 특성에 있어서 추량의 다로우와 증거성 판단의 요오다, 라시이의 중간적 위치에 속하는 형식으로 규정할 수 있다고 보았다.
This paper has focused on clarifying the inferential characteristics of Japanese modality form ‘nodarou’, with consideration for the comparison of darou and ‘yoda’ ‘rasii’ which are the typical forms of evidential modality in Japanese. The previous studies of the inferential meaning of ‘nodarou’ has been approached from some different points of view through the comparison with ‘darou’, specially based on a specific single usage of ‘nodarou’. Therefore, the studies of ‘nodarou’ have not reached the desirable level with which many researchers agree. Thus this paper tried to analyse comprehensively the inferential characteristics of ‘nodarou’ which are related with inferential judgement by considering the various discourse or pragmatic contexts in which the form used. The result of the analysis has shown that ‘nodarou’ has the usages different from ‘darou’, mainly in the following two points. It is because ‘nodarou’ has the meaning of ‘darou’ combined with that of ‘noda’. Firstly, As we can infer through the characteristics of the form itself, nodarou has the common characteristics of usages with ‘darou’ in many cases of contexts. Secondly, ‘nodarou’ can be understood as the form which has the charaterisics of usages very close to ‘yoda’ and ‘rasii’, etc. which are typical forms of evidential modality, through reflecting the meaning of ‘noda’.Considering the inferential characteristics of ‘nodarou, ‘nodarou’ at the present stage can be placed on the middle position of ‘darou’ which is typical inferential modality and ‘nodarou’ which is typical evidential modality.
