デジタル人文学の研究は、ヨーロッパと北米で始まり、韓国、日本、中国、台湾をはじめとするアジアでも活発に行われており、研究の主題は人文学、地域学、歴史学など多様な分野に渡る。また、デジタル人文学の研究は、テキスト、イメージ、マルチメディア、ダイアグラム及びネットワーク連携網などの資料を活用している。一方、日本の文化と歴史において重要な部分を占めている海洋文明との関連主題は、既存のテキストとイメージを基にした人文知識が大部蓄積されているが、その形態が絵、テキスト、地図などと一定ではなく分散されているため、利用し難い側面がある。したがって、既存の海洋文明関連主題の人文知識の効率的な活用のために、デジタル人文学方法論を適応した研究が必要であると思われ、本研究において進めてみた。

Digital humanities research has been started in Europe and North America and is actively conducted in Asia including Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. The theme of the research is text, image, multimedia, diagrams and networks in various fields. In order to revitalize digital humanities research, which is attracting domestic and international attention, it is necessary to consider the future utilization method through analyzing the current state of Japanese studies related to digital humanities at domestic and abroad. The study applying digital humanities methodology seems to be meaningful in order to utilize human knowledge related to marine civilization effectively.
