This study focused on the political, economical, social, educational, and cultural factors related to the evolution course of Korean bodybuilding by connecting periodization of the general history with peculiarity of Korean bodybuilding evolution and dividing the evolution into the four steps-introduction, adaptation, development, and settlement. The study is designed to collectively analyze and examine the evolution of Korean bodybuilding. The first step of introduction began before independence. The Korean bodybuilding began with the weight lifting by Mr. Seo, Sang-Cheon with the pen name of Munkok in 1925. At that time, people showed the beauty of their body as an exercise but it was not common. The second step of adaptation was from the independent year of 1945 to 1969. At that time, the first national bodybuilding competition was held in Seoul City Hall in 1949 with the official name of the 1st Mr. Korea Contest, where player Jo, Sun-Dong won the first place. In 1968, the Korean bodybuilding officially joined IFBB, ready for the era of internationalization. The third step of development was from the 1970s to the 1980s, when the Korean government showed lots of changes and attention. At that time, the Korean bodybuilding officially joined ABBF, going toward internationalization. At last, in the 18th Asian Bodybuilding Championship of 1982, player Park, Young-Chul won the first place in lightweight for the first time. In addition, the Korean bodybuilding was separated from the established Weight lifting Federation and created Association of Korean Bodybuilding in June, 1987. The association was formally accepted by the Korea Amateur Sports Association in February, 1988. The forth step of settlement went through many difficulties and settled down as a complete sport for all and life time sport for the public. In 1991, bodybuilding was selected as an official game in National Sports Meet and held every year. Especially, in the 2002 Busan Asian Games, the bodybuilding game as an official sport was held in Busan Citizen Hall and successfully finished with 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. Due to bodybuilding, Korea won the first place in general. Still, the Korean bodybuilding is limited to an amateur sport However the sport could become an official game in the Olympics as well as a professional sport in no time. Consequently, the Korean bodybuilding should be prepared for the future and continue to develop, which can make bodybuilding become a milestone in the history of Korean physical education.
