Based on the concept of virtual reality, Susanne Langer explains that dance is a tool through which choreographers express their aesthetic intents. The aesthetic meanings delivered by choreographers are virtual realities that are made by dance movements. The audience's understanding about virtual powers in dance are achieved by logical intuition. Langer's dance aesthetics too much emphasizes the logical dimension among multi-dimensional characteristics in dance. The main reason for such a tendency is that the expression-communication theory, on which Langer's dance theory is based, views dance largely from the perspective of audience. Regardless of such a theoretical weakness, Langer's virtual reality is evaluated to provide a philosophical foundation for dance, and recognize the artistic value of dance as an independent art. In these respects, her dance theory is said to affect the dance field enormously.
