The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of GLUT-4, AMPK and PI3-kinase proteins in skeletal muscle by endurance training. Male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent endurance training(20~25m/min, 10~15°, 60min/day, 5days/week, 8weeks) on treadmill. The GLUT-4 expression, AMPK and PI3-kinase activity in gastrocnemius and soleus muscles were examined by Wester blotting.
AMPK activity and the expression of GLUT-4 in both gastrocnemius and soleus muscle was significantly higher after endurance training, but PI3-kinase activity was unchanged.
This observation suggests that GLUT-4 expression and AMPK activity play an important role in glucose transport in skeletla muscle but PI3-kinase may not involved by endurance training.
