Schooling and the culture of school athletics

The purpose of this study were not only for understanding the process of the student-athlete's schooling from educational point of view, but providing integrative visual frames about cultural school athletic teams. Therefore, understanding about his personal history of schooling and current daily life were analyzed by ethnography and tried to understand and interpreted it in depth. To perform this work, in-depth interviews, participants observation, documents analysis including personal writings (e.g., poems and essays, internet material, unstructured interview, newspaper articles and media scripts) were collected and the data gathered by personal life history method was described, analyzed and interpreted. Only exercise without study was the dominant culture of a student-athlete's life. It has caused unusual culture community of the school with troubling with their friends, lack of communication with their teachers and making light about education. The student-athlete's school community which used to have strict ranks authoritarianism of between seniors and juniors, grouped culture, uniform group, culture of enforcement, the nature of exclusivism could cause a frame of an isolated 'island-culture'. There was 'Human right' or 'the right for the pursuit of happiness' should be delayed and ignored. Schooling had made the most of its process rather than result. Success principle and ideology athletism should be reshaped for humanistic a school athletics club. It should be hopeful space where students can find their autonomy and vision.
