This study sought to identify major research trends in Korean sport management studies form the year 1998 to 2003. 667 sport management research papers were gathered for reflecting on comtemporary Korean scholars’ direction needs to pursue. Selected volumes of the Korean Journal of Sport Management, Korean Journal of physical Education, and Korean Journal of Sport and Leisure Studies were analyzed on a comparative basis.
The notable characteristics of the sport management studies in Korea were as follows:
1. Over one fifth of the total number of watch works on selected 3 Korean Journals were dealt with the subject of sport management and the research papers were the most frequently reported on the Korean Journal of Sport and Leisure Studies(20.18 papers were appeared per each volume).
2. 32.83% of the papers have dealt with the research themes involved in establishing efficient marketing strategies and improving their workers’ job satisfaction for private or public sport centers and resorts.
3. Survey research was the most commonly used(71.21% of the total researches) for accomplishing the sport management studies.
4. Statistical methods were toed in 481 of 667 research papers and descriptive statistics, regression analysis, analysis of variance were frequently used in order.
Based upon this analysis, sport management researches should develop suitable sport management theories and explore proper research methods for better understanding of sport management and appropriate application towards Korean sport management fields.
