본 연구의 목적은 다석 유영모(1890-1981)의 생사관을 재구성하여 이를 바탕으로 생명교육 의의를 살펴보았다. 생사관은 삶과 죽음에 대한 관점으로 한 사람의 생애에서 삶의 가치와 의미를 결정하는 중요 요소이다. 다석은 동서양의 사상을 회통시킨 사상가로 동양의 유･불･선과 서양의 기독교사상과 근대철학까지 두루 밝은 사상가로서 독보적이다. 다석 사상은 물질과 정신, 영성의 세계가 통섭이라는 명목으로 하향적 수평화된 현대 서구사상에 대한 반성과 대안으로서 어둠, 한, 공허의 세계로 존재의 근원과 바탕을 탐구하고 드러내는 새로운 사유와 삶의 길을 제시했다. 다석의 생사관은 소통과 뚫림의 생명관, 역설과 부정을 통한 초월적 죽음관, 하루를 영원처럼 오늘살이 생사관으로 정리할 수 있다. 이러한 다석 생사관은 한국적 생명교육의 담론을 확장하며 현재 한국적 생사관 정립과 생명사상 확산에 계기가 될 것이라 생각한다.

The purpose of this paper is to reconstruct the view on life and death of Daseok Youngmo Yu(1890-1981) and discuss the meaningful of life and death education. The view on life and death is an important aspect in determining the value and meaning of one’s life. Daseok was a unique and bright philosopher who converged the ideas of East and West, such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism of Eastern idea, Christianity of Western idea, and modern philosophy. Daseok idea proposed a new thinking way and a way of life exploring and revealing the source and basis of existence in the world of darkness, oneness, and emptiness as a reflection and an alternative to modern Western thought which was nominal downward leveling of the world of matter, spirit, and spirituality. The view on life and death of Daseok can be summed up as transcendental life through paradox and denial, experience of communication and opened-up, and o-neul as if the day is eternal. These view on life and death suggest the possibility of life and death education. The view on life and death of Daseok expand the discourse of life and death education, establish of the view on life and death and spread life thought in Korea.
