본 연구는 학기말에 실시한 학생 설문조사 결과 및 군집분석을 활용하여 영어 수업에 대한 학생들 간의 인식과 태도의 차이에 관해 살펴본 연구이다. 평균적으로 많은 학생들이 영어에 흥미를 가지지 않고 골치가 아프다고 보나, 영어를 능숙하게 사용하는 것이 좋은 직업을 얻는 것뿐만 아니라 살아가는데 필요하기 때문에 영어를 포기하기에는 너무 중요하다는 것을 인식하고 있다. 따라서 영어를 잘하기를 원할 뿐만 아니라 잘하는 사람들을 부러워하며, 또한 영어로 인한 스트레스를 많이 받는 다고 답하였다. 한편, 군집분석의 결과 영어수업에 만족하고 도구로서의 영어를 보다 긍정적으로 보는 집단과 그렇지 않은 집단 간의 차이가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 결론적으로 영어수업을 설계하고 운영하는데 있어 이러한 결과를 수준 테스트와 함께 고려할 필요가 있다고 본다.

This study investigates differences of students' perceptions and attitudes toward English class by cluster analysis, using the result of the students’ survey at the end of the term. On average, most students are not interested in English, and for them it is rather troublesome. On the other hand, they acknowledge English is too important to disregard. It is because English fluency is beneficial not only for getting a better job but for a higher standard of living. Therefore they want to be good at English, and, at the same time, envy those who are good at it. As the reason, they are under a lot of stress from English, too. Meanwhile, the result of the cluster analysis shows statistically significant differences between the two groups. One is more satisfied with the class, considering English as tools more positively. The other is not. In conclusion, for designing and operating English class, the result had better be considered together with depending on students’ level test.
