이 연구는 성역할 고정관념 및 일치 이론을 근거로 하여 한국의 대표적인 여성스포츠 스타인 장미란 선수와 손연재 선수에 대한 미디어 보도 양식과 미디어 프레임의 차이를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 장미란 선수 640개, 손연재 선수 400개의 미디어 보도 자료를 수집하여 프레임과 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 우선 미디어 보도 양식에 대한 연구 결과는 손연재 선수 경우는 외모나 여성성 위주의 양식을 보이고 있으며 장미란 선수 경우는 경기력, 성취업적, 사회활동 위주의 보도 양식을 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째로 두 선수에 대한 미디어 보도 프레임에 대한 연구는 손연재 선수의 경우 여성성이 강조되는 프레임의 경향이 강하게 나타났으며 장미란 선수의 경우 민족주의 프레임 경향이 강하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통하여 성역할 고정관념 및 일치 이론이 미디어 프레임이 두 여성 스포츠 스타에 존재하는 것을 확인하였다.

The purpose of this study is, as considering Yeonjae Son, a female gymnast, and Miran Jang, a female weightlifter, to explore the media frame and the way how the media treat the femininity of these two athletes base upon gender stereotype and role congruity theory. The news articles related to these two athletes, 400 articles of Yeonjae Son and 640 articles of Miran Jang, were analyzed, and the result has been derived through frame analysis and content analysis. First result showed that media focuses on the femininity related to appearance and figure in case of Yeonjae Son, and treats social activities, performances and achievements in case of Miran Jang. Second result showed that the media mainly uses sexist frame in case of Yeonjae Son, and uses nationalism frame in case of Miran Jang. Through these results, the fact that gender stereotype and role congruity theory still exist in the media frame and press releases related to female sports stars. It implies the needs toward proper and diverse measures of coverage for female sports stars.
