이 연구는 Lickona(2005)의 품성이론을 기반으로 스포츠 참가를 통해 발달할 수 있는 품성의 개념적 구조를 밝히고 측정모형을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1,685명의 남녀 초(5, 6학년), 중학생이 개방형설문, 집단 초점면접, 속성중요도 평정 및 구조모형 검증에 참여하였다. 개방형 설문과 집단 면접의 내용분석 및 속성 중요도 평정 결과, 스포츠 품성을 대표하는 16개의 개념적 주제를 발견하였으며, 이를 토대로 발달적 스포츠 품성의 개념 구조를 알아보기 위해 측정 도구를 개발하고 일련의 탐색적 및 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 탐색적 요인분석에서 스포츠참여를 통해 발달될 수 있는 품성은 책임감, 자신감, 인내, 집중력, 자기관리, 배려성, 존중, 정직성, 사회성의 9개 요인을 포함하는 다차원적 개념으로 확인되었다. 나아가, 9개 요인을 단일 차원화한 구조모형과 대안적으로 9개 요인을 도덕적 품성과 실천적 품성으로 위계화한 고차모형에 대한 확인적 요인분석 결과, 두 모형 모두 안정적인 적합도 지수를 나타냈으며, 특히 위계모형이 단일차원 모형보다 발달적 스포츠 품성을 더욱 잘 설명하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 발달적 스포츠 품성의 발견적 가치는 물론 학문적 후속 연구 방향과 관련하여 논의하였다.

The character through sport is a central concern to students, coaches and educators in sport science in that the notion of predicting based on present knowledge. The purpose of this study was to explore the key factors accountable for character development through sport and test the factor structure of character development. A total of 689 outstanding students in school sports club in elementary and middle school were participated each stage of survey. Data were collected in open questionnaire(220), group focus interview(7), factor important degree(61), and survey(1,396). Inductive content analysis procedure was used to determine the key factors accountable for sport character. Major factors accountable included 16 category of themes. EFA and CFA were conducted to test the reliability of items and the factor structure. A factor analysis reveal that the concept of character through sport consist of 9 factors. They were accountability, confidence, perseverance, concentration, resiliency, caring, respect, keeping rules, cooperation. Also, all the index values of first-order CFA model and second-order CFA model were appeared fit. This result showed that if we turn our attention from character development through sport, we found an intuitively seductive physical education contexts.
