이 연구는 구한말 화류에 관한 실체를 파악하기 위해 선행학자들의 화류에 관한 견해에서 도출된 화류, 소풍, 야회에 초점을 맞추었는데, 동시기 화류와 같은 범주에 머물고 있던 화류회, 화류연, 화류관람회, 꽃놀이 소풍, 외설적 연회를 포함하여 검토한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 구한말 화류는 화류를 포함하여 화류회, 화류연, 화류관람회의 용어로 범주화되어 나타났고, 이는 춘계운동회, 연회, 꽃놀이 소풍, 외설적 연회, 사전적 의미의 꽃과 버들, 꽃구경의 성격을 보였다. 또한 꽃놀이 소풍은 운동회로 비춰지고 인식되는 경향을 보여, 선행학자들의 주장과 상이한 결론이 도출되었다. 아울러 소풍과 야회는 명칭이 지니고 있는 제 의미에 불과한 것으로 나타났다.

This study focused on the Hwa-ryu(花柳), picnic, evening party drawn from the perspectives of precedented scholars on the Hwa-ryu and it reached the conclusion as follows from the examination on Hwa-ryu-hoe(花柳會,) Hwa-ryu-yeon(花柳宴), Hwa-ryu-gwan-ram-hoe(花柳觀覽會,) a flower viewing and indecent party which existed in the contemporary with the Hwa-ryu. The Hwa-ryu in the late Choseon dynasty can be categorized as Hwa-ryu-hoe, Hwa-ryu-yeon, Hwa-ryu-gwan-ram-hoe including Hwa-ryu, which showed characteristics of fall sports meetings, excursions, a flower viewing, indecent party, a flower and a willow on a dictionary definition. A flower viewing also tend to be described as a sport meeting, which leads to a different conclusion from the preceeding thesis. In addition, a picnic and an evening party turned out to suggest the real meaning, not alone the title.
