본고는 ‘커녕’이 이루는 문장은 하나의 구문으로서 다양한 정도로 추상화된 위계적 틀로 어휘부에 등재되어 있다는 것을 밝히고자 하였다. 이러한 목적에 따라 본고에서 밝힌 바를 정리하여 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어휘부에는 다양한 단위가 등재되어 있을 수 있는데 형식과 의미가 일치하지 않아 게슈탈트와 복잡계의 특성을 보이는 구문 또한 어휘부 등재 단위가 될 수 있다. 어휘부에 등재된 단위들은 자기조직화와 창발이라는 특성을 바탕으로 틀을 형성하기도 하는데 구문 또한 추상화 정도에 따라 위계적 틀을 형성할 수 있다. 둘째, ‘커녕’ 구문은 부정문과 긍정문 모두로 쓰일 수 있는데 긍정문으로 쓰일 때도 ‘커녕’의 후행문 명제에 의해 선행어 명제가 부정되므로 ‘커녕’은 부정 극어라고 할 수 있다. 셋째, ‘커녕’ 구문이 부정문으로 쓰일 때 선행어는 ‘은/는’과, 후행어는 ‘도’와 결합하는데 이들 조사는 선행어와 후행어를 대조시키면서 초점을 나타내는 대조 초점 조사로서 ‘커녕’ 구문은 쌍 대조 초점 구문을 이룬다. 넷째, ‘커녕’ 구문의 후행문명제는 선행어 명제를 함의하는데 이 함의는 척도상 한쪽 극단에 있는 항의 부정이 전칭 부정이 되어 그 항이 나머지 한쪽 극단에 있는 항을 함의하게 됨으로써 발생한다. 따라서 ‘커녕’ 구문의 해석은 함의와 척도라는 두 개념이 매우 중요한 변수가 된다. 다섯째, ‘커녕’ 구문은 형식만으로 의미를 예측할 수 없는 구문으로서 추상화된 정도에 따라 틀로 표현될 수 있다. 이 각각의 틀은 위계적으로 어휘부에 등재되어 있어 서로 관련을 맺고 있다. ‘커녕’ 구문이 긍정문으로 쓰일 때도 선행어 명제가 부정된다는 점은 ‘커녕’구문의 구문적 속성을 잘 보여 준다고 할 수 있다.

This paper aims to reveal that ‘khe-nyeng’ sentence as a kind of construction is listed on the lexicon in a hierarchical schema that represent different levels of abstraction. The findings of this paper under this purpose are as follows. First, the construction that exhibit characteristics of Gestalt and complex system is able to be a listeme because a various of units can be listed on the lexicon. Second, ‘khe-nyeng’ is a negative polarity item since a proposition that is inferred from the antecedent word of ‘khe-nyeng’ is negated by a proposition that is expressed by the following sentence of ‘khe-nyeng’ even when ‘khe-nyeng’ construction is a affirmative sentence. Third, when the ‘khe-nyeng’ construction is used in a negative sentence, the antecedent word of ‘khe-nyeng’ is combined with ‘un/nun’ and the following word of ‘khe-nyeng’ is combined with ‘to’. As ‘un/nun’ and ‘to’ are a contrastive focus particles, ‘khe-nyeng’ construction is a paired contrastive focus construction. Fourth, a proposition that is expressed by the following sentence of ‘khe-nyeng’ entails a proposition that is inferred from the antecedent word of ‘khe-nyeng’. This entailment occurs when negation of one endpoint in scales becomes universal negative and one endpoint entails the opposite endpoint in scales. Therefore, the two semantic concepts of entailment and scale are very important to interpretation about ‘khe-nyeng’ construction. Fifth, ‘khe-nyeng’ construction is a ‘construction’ that the meaning can not be predicted only from it’s form. Thus, ‘khe-nyeng’ construction is able to be expressed in schema depending on the extent of abstraction. Each of schemata is listed hierarchically on the lexicon, and the schemata are closely related to each other.
