본 연구는 기든스의 ‘제3의 길’ 정치 이념을 중심으로 스포츠복지 개념 정립을 목적으로 하였다. 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스포츠복지는 포용적 복지로서 실질적인 사회통합의 가치를 실현하는 것이다. 둘째, 스포츠복지는 건강보험·의료급여를 받는 복지 수혜 권리를 누릴 뿐만 아니라 규칙적인 스포츠 활동을 통해 질병에 걸리지 않도록 의무 또한 다하는 것이다. 이는 ‘스포츠 할 수 있는 복지(welfare to be able to sport)’를 제공하는 것이다. 셋째, 스포츠복지는 규칙적인 스포츠 활동을 통해 질병을 사전에 예방하고 신체적·정신적·사회적으로 안녕(安寧) 상태를 유지하도록 하는 것이다. 넷째, 스포츠복지는 자신의 건강을 지키기 위해 스스로 노력할 수 있는 수단 및 방식이다. 다섯째, 스포츠복지는 건강보험·의료급여 혜택에만 의존하는 수동적인 개인이 아닌 스포츠 활동에 적극 참여하는 능동적인 개인을 만드는 것이다. 여섯째, 스포츠복지는 스포츠자본(sport capital)에 투자하여 스포츠 환경 개선으로 국민의 건강을 생산하고 미래세대의 복지를 위한 정책을 수립하는 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to establish the concept of sports welfare based on Giddens' ′The Third Way′ political ideology. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, As a magnanimity welfare, Sports welfare actualize the value of real social integration. Second, Sports welfare is not only to enjoy the right to welfare benefits of receiving health insurance and medical benefits, but also to do its duty to prevent illness through regular sports activities. I call it ‘welfare to be able to sport’. Third, Sport welfare is the prevention of disease through regular sports activities and the maintenance of physical, mental and social well-being. Fourth, Sport welfare is a means or way of trying to keep one's health. Fifth, Sport welfare is not to make a passive individual depending on health insurance medical benefits, but to make an active individual who actively participates in sports actvities. Last, Sports welfare is to invest in sports capital to produce the health of the people by improving the sports environment and to establish policies for the welfare of future generations.
