본 연구는 한국교회의 제자훈련의 문화적 다양성과 이해도의 측면을 분석하기 위하여 교회 방문과 각종 활동에 관찰 참여, 그리고 목회자와 평신도 심층 인터뷰를 통하여 실제적인 제자훈련에 대한 문화적 전제를 정리하였다. 제이 문의 간문화 제자도(Intercultural Discipleship)을 위한 도구로 사용된 ‘서양과 비서양의 제자훈련을 위한 문화적 전제’를 활용하여, 한국교회의 제자훈련이 가지는 특성을 파악하였다. 이 전제들은 다음과 같다: 인쇄중심 vs. 구전중심, 개인주의 정체성 vs. 집단주의 정체성, 정의기반 vs. 명예/체면 기반, 지식중심 vs. 감정중심, 공장생산방식 vs. 수공업생산방식. 아울러 한국적 문화 이해에서 드러나는 강점과 약점을 파악하여, 제자삼기가 문화적으로 다양성을 허용하는지 혹은 제한되어 있는지를 확인하고자 한다. 한국교회에서 행해지는 수많은 신앙교육 프로그램들의 효과와 부작용을 측정하고, 대안점을 제시할 수 있는 도구로서 간문화 제자도의 연구는 유의미하다. 세대의 차이, 지역의 차이, 그리고 성별의 차이 등등 다양한 포스트모던 시대의 요구에 비추어, 그 동안 간과되어 왔던 문화적 도구들을 재발견하고 보완하여 활용한다면, 각 지역교회들이 제자양육에서 경험하는 어려움과 장애물들을 극복하는데 일조하게 될 것이다. 이러한 간문화 제자도 분석을 통하여 제자훈련을 더욱 활성화를 도모하게 될 것이다.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the cultural diversity and understanding of discipleship training in Korean churches by observing and participating various activities of the churches and by interviewing with interviews with pastors and laity. To understand the characteristics of discipleship training in Korean churches, I used Jay Moon's cultural assumptions for discipleship training in Western and non-Western cultures for intercultural discipleship. These assumptions are Print-based vs. Oral-based, Individual identity vs. Collective identity, Justice/guilt orientation vs. Honor/shame orientation, Cognitive focus vs. Emotive focus, Assembly-line production vs. Handcrafted production. In addition, I would like to identify the strengths and weaknesses of Korean cultural understanding and to ascertain whether disciple-making allows cultural diversity or is limited. The study of intercultural discipleship is meaningful as a tool to measure the effects and side effects of many faith education programs conducted in Korean churches and to suggest alternatives. In light of the demands of various postmodern times, such as generation differences, regional differences, and gender differences, rediscovering and supplementing the cultural tools that have been overlooked in the past will make it easier for local churches to understand the difficulties and obstacles experienced in discipleship. It will help to overcome them. Such intercultural discipleship will also stimulate disciple-mak ing practices through quantitative analysis and qualitative improvement at the same time.
