이상에서 임진왜란 때 광해군이 이끄는 분조가 구성된 경위와 주요 활동, 그리고 그것이 지니는 의미들을 살펴보았다. 광해군의 분조 활동은 비록 7개월간의 짧은 기간이었지만, 이 시기는 임진왜란 초반 가장 치열한 격전이 벌어진 때로서, 전세를 역전시키는 데 주요한 역할을 하였다. 광해군은 세자 때의 분조 활동으로 말미암아 민심의 적극적인 지지를 이끌어 냈고, 이것은 선조의 불신으로 위태로운 위치에 있었던 세자의 지위에서 왕위에 오를 수 있는 중요한 기반이 되었다. 특히 아버지인 왕의 피난과 대비되는, 젊은 왕제자의 헌신은 전쟁 초반 위기에 빠진 조선사회의 민심을 통합하게 했다는 점에서 큰 의미를 지닌다.
분조 활동의 경험이 전쟁과 외교에 대해 객관적이고 합리적인 시각을 가져오게 하여, 광해군의 내치의 부정적인 측면에도 불구하고 외교 분야에서는 여전히 높은 평가를 받는 군주로 자리매김이 되고 있다. 그리고 1627년 정묘호란 때도 조정에서 바로 소현세자의 분조를 구성한 것에서 광해군의 분조 활동이 가진 긍정성이 바로 후대에 적용되었음을 알 수 있다.
18세의 젊은 세자 광해군은 분조 활동을 통해 위기관리 능력을 훌륭히 보였고, 이것은 광해군이 후계자의 입지를 굳히고, 전쟁 후 주전론(主戰論)을 전개한 정치 세력이 자리를 잡는데 도큰 도움이 되었다. 광해군이 즉위 후에도 후금과 명나라 사이에서 실리외교를 추구할 수 있었던 것에는 임진왜란 때 분조 활동을 통하여 참전한 경험이 큰 역할을 했다고 보여 진다. 또한 광해군이 정인홍, 곽재우 등북인(北人)들을 중용한 것은 이들이 의병장으로 크게 활약했기 때문으로 판단된다.
We examined how Seja Gwanghaegun led the group that he formed during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, and the group’s main activities and significance. Although he controlled activities for just seven months, this short period was the most intense, and played a major role in reversing the tide in the early days of the Japanese Invasion of Korea. He drew active support from the people and touched their hearts through his reconstruction work in this period. This became an important foundation for his ascending to the throne considering that his status was in a precarious condition due to distrust of ancestors. In particular, the young emperor's dedication contrasts with the evacuation of his father, the king, and is significant in that it consolidated public sentiment towards the Joseon Dynasty, which was in crisis at the beginning of the war.
His experience of consolidating activities led to an objective and reasonable view of war and negotiations, making him a highly regarded monarch in the field of diplomacy, despite the negative aspects of his Army's internal affairs. In 1627, during the Jeongmyo Lake period, Gwanghaegun's positive activities directly influenced later generations in the formation of the SoHyeonse group. Eighteen-year-old Gwanghaegun displayed excellent crisis management skills, which helped the country strengthen its position, and helped the political forces take their rightful place after the war. The fact that Gwanghaegun was able to pursue practical diplomacy between the latter and the Ming Dynasty even after his ascension to the throne shows that his experience played a major role during the Japanese Invasion of Korea. In addition, his heavy dependence on North Koreans, including Jeong In-hong and Kwak Jae-woo, is attributed to their reliable performance as medical officers.
