부여 송국리 유적은 우리나라 청동기시대 편년사에서 새로운 획기를 마련해주었을 뿐만 아니라 취락을 구성하는 다양한 요소들에 힘입어 청동기시대 거점취락을 연구하는 데 중추적인 역할을 하고 있다. 본 글은 송국리 유적에서 조사된 유구들 가운데 대규모 목주열을 대상으로 목책이나 롱하우스와 같은 건물 외에 또 다른 성격으로 해석될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 송국리 취락을 구성하는 다양한 요소들 속에서 목주열의 형태와 분포적 특징을 검토하였다. 이러한 고고학적 정황을 바탕으로 그동안 성격이 불분명했던 목주열을 ‘송국리 선상열주(線狀列柱)’로 명명하는 기본 토대를 마련할 수 있었다. 특히 선상열주로부터 직선적이고 과감한 기획적 성격, 방형계 주거군의 피해와 공사가 불가피했던 당시 상황, 고상가옥(1·2호)과 공터쪽으로의 방향성, 주혈 규모 대비 대형 목주의 사용이라는 특징을 추출할 수 있었다. 그리고 그 성격에 대해 대규모 취락의례에서 집단의 상징성을 대내외적으로 과시하기 위한 기념물로서의 가능성을 제시하게 되었다. 또한 방형계 주거지와의 중첩관계로 파악된 방형계 주거군의 대대적인 폐기 → 선상열주 공사 → 목주열의 일부 또는 대대적인 폐기 → 방형계 주거군의 재축조라는 과정을 바탕으로 취락의 3단계 변천을 설정하여 선상열주의 시간성을 살펴볼 수 있었다.

Songguk-ri site is one of the most representative sites during the Bronze Age of Korea. Excavations on the Songguk-ri site have provided valuable insights for research into how two settlements coexisted as well as its stature as a hub settlement, the social hierarchy within the settlement community, and the social phenomena associated with physical clashes or conflicts in the community. The aim of this article is to suggest the possibility that the rows of large wooden poles at Songguk-ri could have served a function other than that of a wooden fence or a long house. The author refers such large-scale rows of wooden poles as Songguk-ri Alignments. Among the various elements that make up the Songguk-ri settlement, the author examines the structure and distribution of the alignments. The author proposes that the alignments were a monument built to display the community’s symbol to this and the next world during rituals performed in the settlement. Furthermore, the author puts forward the notion that the alignments in Songguk-ri went through 3 stages of transition : wide-scale demolition of square-shaped houses → construction of the alignments → partial or large discarding of the rows of wooden poles → rebuilding of square-shaped houses.
