본고는 북경사행을 출발하는 당일 전별연이 펼쳐진 장소를 공적인 장소와 사적인 장소를 나누어 살펴보고 한양 전별연 장소에 나타난 이별정서를 살펴보았다. 통시적 고찰을 통하여 한양에서의 공적 전별연은 京畿監營과 慕華館이 중심으로 주로 盤松亭에서 행해졌으며, 사적인 전별연은 모화관을 지나 弘濟院으로 가는 西郊 부근에서 이루어졌다. 공적인 전별연은 경기감영 또는 모화관에서 베푸는데 대제학, 이조판서, 호조판서, 경기 감사 등의 고위직들이 참여한 공식적인 자리였다. 이러한 공적인 전별연은 길어야 반나절 정도였으며, 북경에 무사히 다녀올 것을 당부하며 술을 나누어 마셨다. 이후 공적인 전별연이 끝나면 곧장 사행단은 모화관 앞으로 난 길을 통하여 迎恩門을 지나 沙峴을 넘어 홍제원을 지나게 된다. 영은문을 지나 홍제원까지 가는 길가에 사행단을 보내는 일가친척과 친우들이 개별적으로 천막을 치고선 떠나는 이들을 위한 전별연을 행한다. 따라서 사행을 가는 이들은 자신을 부르는 천막에 들러 작별 인사를 나누고 차나 술을 마시며 덕담을 듣고 무사히 사행 다녀오기를 기원하는 시나 송서를 받게 된다. 북경사행에서 공식적으로 한양을 출발하는 첫날 행해지는 전별연은 이처럼 모화관 인근의 반송정에서 공적인 전별연을 가진 후 고양 벽제관으로 행차하는 동안 사적 전별연을 개별적으로 치르게 된다. 이때의 전별연은 사행단이 머물다 떠나는 황주, 평양, 안주, 선천, 의주 등에서의 전별연과는 잔치의 모습이나 정서에서 확연하게 차이가 난다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the places where Jeonbyeolyeon(餞 別宴) was held on the day of departure of envoying to Peking as public and private places and also the sentiments of parting found in the places of Jeonbyeolyeon in Hanyang. According to diachronic consideration, this author has learned that public Jeonbyeolyeon in Hanyang was mostly held in Bansongjeong centering around Gyeonggi Gamyeong and Mohwagwan(慕華館) while private Jeonbyeolyeon was performed around Seogyo(西郊) leading from Mohwagwan to Hongjewon(弘濟院). Public Jeonbyeolyeon was held in either Gyeonggi Gamyeong or Mohwagwan, and it was an office place where top officials like Daejehak, Ijopanseo, Hojopanseo, or Gyeonggi Gamsa were attending. This public Jeonbyeolyeon lasted for about half the day at the most, and during it, they shared alcoholic beverages asking the envoys to return from Peking safely. Right after the public Jeonbyeolyeon ended, the envoying group walked through the path before Mohwagwan to pass Yeongeunmun, Sahyeon, and then Hongjewon. On the roads leading from Yeongeunmun to Hongjewon, the envoying group’s relatives or friends put up a tent individually and held their own individual Jeonbyeolyeon for those about to leave. The envoys who were leaving stopped at the tent where there were people wanting them to say good-bye and share tea or alcohol with them. They received well-wishing remarks and poems or farewell letters wishing for their safe envoying procedure there. Jeonbyeolyeon was held officially on the first day of departure from Hanyang for envoying to Peking. Public Jeonbyeolyeon was carried out in Bansongjeong near Mohwagwan, and then, while marching to Goyang Byeokjegwan, they received private Jeonbyeolyeon individually as well. Jeonbyeolyeon there was noticeably different from that in Hwangju, Pyeongyang, Anju, Seoncheon, or Uiju where the envoying group stayed for a while before leaving.
