목적: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between waist circumference (WC) and mortality in elderly Korean women.
방법: We enrolled Korean women who had undergone National Health Screening Examination through the National Health Insurance Corporation in 2009. A total of 45,408 Korean women over 60 years of age without pre-existing cardiovascular disease or cancer at baseline defined by charlson’s comorbidity index were followed-up until 2014.
결과: During follow-up, 1,759 total deaths occurred. The rate of death from any cause had a U-shaped association with WC. Subjects with a WC < 70 cm and ≥110 cm had higher risks of mortality. The highest risk of mortality was observed in subjects with a WC <70 cm (hazard ratio 1.48; 95% CI 1.28 to 1.72) compared with the reference group (WC 70-79 cm).
결론: Elderly women with lower WC had higher rates of death than those with normal WC.
