이 글은 한국인 원폭 피해자를 다룬 김옥숙의 『흉터의 꽃』(2017)이 한국의 ‘원폭 문학’으로서 갖는 의미를 고찰하고자 했다. 세월호 사건 이후 억울함을 호소하는 다양한 구성원의 목소리가 분출하는 사회분위기하에서 한국인 원폭 피해자를 다룬 김옥숙의 장편소설 『흉터의 꽃』이 출간되었다. 이 소설이 간행된 2017년 5월은 ‘한국인 원자폭탄 피해자 지원을 위한 특별법’이 시행된 달이기도 했다. 하지만 대다수가 ‘특별법’ 시행이나 원폭 피해자의 존재 여부를 모르고 있다. 피해 당사자의 염원이라고 할 수 있는 ‘특별법’이 시행된 해에 나온 소설은 무엇을 독자에게 전달하고자 했을까. 또한 구술 증언집과 달리 소설은 어떠한 효과를 발휘하고 있는 것일까. 세월호 이래 진실과 공감을 공유하고자 하는 여러 전달자가 ‘어떻게 쓸것인지’ 고심하던 때에 산출된 소설이기에 이 작품이 지닌 문학적 전략과 효과는 더욱 구명(究明)되어야 할 과제라고 할 수 있다.

This article sought to examine the significance of Kim Ok Sook’s Flower of Scar(2017), which deals with the Korean atomic bomb victim, as the ‘Atomic Bomb Literature’ in Korea. Under the social atmosphere where the voices of various members appeal to the victims after the Sewol ferry accident, Kim Ok Sook’s novel of Flower of Scar dealt with Korean A-bomb victims, was published. In May of 2017, when the novel was published, it was also the month when the Special Act for Supporting Victims of Korean Atom Bombs was implemented. However, the vast majority do not know whether the ‘special law’ or the presence of atomic bomb victims exist. What did the novel in the year of the Special Law, which is the desire of the victims, want to convey to the reader? Also, what effect does the novel have in contrast to oral testimonies? It is the novel to be produced when the various communicators who want to share truth and empathy since the time of year have been wondering how to use it. Therefore, the literary strategy and effect of this work should be further researched.
