최초의 근대소설로 여겨지는 피카레스크 소설은 사실주의 소설의 효시이자 서양문학사에 있어서도 큰 획을 그은 하나의 소설 장르이다. 특히 피카레스크 소설의 효시라고 할 수 있는 『라사리요 데 또르메스』는 하층민이 주인공으로 등장하여 배고픔에서 벗어나기 위해 피카로가 되어가는 과정을 보여주면서 당시 사회의 위선과 부조리, 종교비판의식을 보여주며 사회를 고발하는 사실주의적 전통을 탄생시킨다. 이후 100년간 서양에서 큰 인기를 누렸던 피카레스크 소설은 그 이후 사라지는 듯했지만 스페인문학의 저변에 흐르고 있던 피카레스크적 전통은 1970년대 후반 스페인에서 쏟아져 나왔던 사회적 사실주의 경향의 소설인 흑색소설에서 되살아난다. 스페인 흑색소설의 대표작이라고 할 수 있는 에두아르도 멘도사의 ‘이름 없는 탐정 시리즈 5부작’은 현대판 『라사리요 데 또르메스』라고 할 수 있을 정도로 작품의 주인공과 소설의 구조가 흡사하다고 평가받는다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ‘이름 없는 탐정 시리즈 5부작’에서 부활한 『라사리요 데 또르메스』의 흔적을 찾아보기로 한다.

The appearance of the picaresque novel, which is considered to be the first modern novel, is a milestone in the history of realist novels and western literature. Especially the first picaresque novel, Lazarillo de Tormes creates a realistic tradition accusing society of hypocrisy, absurdity and religious criticism with Lazarillo, the main character of the lower classes, who is trying to escape from hunger. The picaresque novel, which had enjoyed great popularity in the West for the next 100 years after its release, seemed to disappear after that. However, the picaresque tradition that underlies Spanish literature revived in the Spanish black novel, a novel of the social realism pouring from Spain in the late '70s. Of that, Eduardo Mendoza’s Anonymous Detective Series, a representative work of the Spanish black novel, is considered to be similar in structure and character- wise to Lazarillo de Tormes. So that it can be described as the modern version Lazarillo de Tormes, in this study, we will look for the traces of Lazarillo de Tormes within Anonymous Detective Series.
