이 글의 목적은 하이데거가 기술의 본질로 제시했던 “Gestell”에 대한 기존 한국어 번역어들의 문제점을 비판적으로 검토한 뒤 그것을 대체할 새로운 번역어를 제안하는 데 있다. 기존 번역어들로는 이기상의 “닦달”, 이진우의 “공작(工作)”, 피터 하의 “모두세움”, 그리고 이선일, 박찬국, 이기상, 김재철, 강학순 등의 “몰아세움” 등이 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 번역어들이 갖고 있는 저마다의 의도와 설명력을 살펴볼 것이다. 그것들에 공통된 문제점들은 첫째는 그것들이 “Ge-stell”이라는 낱말에 담긴 하이데거 철학의 의미와 의도를 제대로 담아내지 못하고 있다는 점이고, 둘째는 그것들이 “Ge-stell”과 그것과 연계된 낱말들(Herstellen, Vorstellen, Bestellen, Gegenstand, Bestand)사이에 놓인 ‘총체적 연관성(Stellen)’을 표현하지 못한다는 점이며, 셋째는 그것들이 하이데거 기술철학을 한국어로 전달하고 토론하는 데 큰 어려움을 낳고 있다는 점 등이다. 여기서는 “세움-몰이”라는 새로운 옮김말이 제안될 것이고, 그에 따라 그와 연관된 갈말들도 “빚어 세움”, “눈앞에 세움”, “맞춰 세움”, “마주선 것”, “맞춰 세워진 것(맞춤품)” 등으로 제시될 것이다.

This paper aims to examine the problems of existing Korean translated words of “Gestell", the term which Heidegger proposed as the very nature of technology, from the critical viewpoints and to suggest the alternative translated word. As the existing words of "Gestell" translated into Korean, there are "Dakttal (grilling or rebuking)" by Lee Gi-sang, "Gongjak (工作, crafts)" by Lee Jin-woo, "Modu-seum" by Peter Ha, "Mora-seum" by Lee Seon-il, Park Chan-guk, Lee Gi-sang, Kim Jae-cheol, Gang Hak-soon et al, and so on. This paper discusses these words one by one, examining each one's intention and effectiveness. This paper points out common problems that the above translated words face are as the following: First, they cannot fully reflect the meaning and intention of the term "Ge-stell", from which Heidegger tried to articulate. Second, they cannot express the ‘coherence (Stellen)' between the term "Ge-stell” and other associated words (Herstellen, Vorstellen, Bestellen, Gegenstand, Bestand). Third, they cause difficulties in conveying and discussing Heidegger's Philosophy. In this regard, this paper suggests “Seum-moli” as an alternative translated Korean word, along with its associated words as “Bijeo-seum (hand-made)”, “Nunape-seum (standing before eyes)”, “Matchwo-seum (tailor-made)”, “Maju-seon-Geot (thing standing facing right ahead)”, “Mat-chum-pum (tailor-made thing)” and so on.
